Madrid Register News Has New Owners

In mid-November, owners of Wilcox Printing sold the Madrid Register News to Mid-America Publishing, which is based in Hampton, Iowa. Only the newspaper is being sold; Wilcox Printing will remain in its current location and will continue to provide its printing services.

The Madrid Register News will continue to provide community news, and Mid-American Publishing has resources to increase the newspaper’s online and social media presence. You may also notice the newspaper’s slimmer design at 22 inches instead of 28.

The Madrid Register News has been in the Wilcox family since November of 1957. Clarence “Bill” and Irene Wilcox made the purchase, and moved the business to Madrid the following year. Dennis and Carol Wilcox joined the family business in 1977 by adding commercial printing services. The business name was then formally changed to Wilcox Printing and Publishing, Inc.

Jennifer Williams (daughter of Dennis and Carol Wilcox) and her husband Ken joined the family business in 2008. After expanding the printing side of the business, Jennifer and Ken decided to sell the newspaper portion of the business this year so they could focus on the printing business.

Mid-America Publishing owns 23 newspapers and 4 shoppers in Iowa. Mid-American Publishing is owned by Matt and Jeanette Grohe of Des Moines.

The Madrid Register News office will move to 126 S. State Street in Madrid. Contact Miranda Beenken with your marketing needs at 515-512-2809 or [email protected]. To share your community news, contact [email protected].
